What’s in the bag
- Lactated Ringer’s solution — balanced electrolyte fluids preferred in clinical recovery over plain saline
- Amino acid blend — building blocks for protein resynthesis after breakdown
- Taurine — supports muscle function, hydration, and mitochondrial performance
- B-complex — energy metabolism for the days after a hard effort
- Magnesium chloride — muscle relaxation, cramp reduction, sleep support
- Optional add-ons — Toradol for soreness, Glutathione for oxidative-stress load, extra Vitamin C for immune support post-event
Who books Athletic Recovery
- Runners — post-marathon, post-half, post-trail race. Utah has a busy race calendar — Salt Lake Marathon, Big Cottonwood Marathon, Speedgoat, Wasatch Back Ragnar.
- Cyclists — LOTOJA and local century rides, Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood climbs, LaLa Palooza and the Tour of Utah region.
- Skiers and snowboarders — a four-day push between Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Park City takes a real physiological toll, and altitude dehydration makes it worse.
- Pickleball, tennis, and tournament players — multiple matches in a day, especially in heat.
- Youth and high-school athletes — between practice-heavy weeks, with parental consent and our normal intake.
- CrossFit and strength athletes — competition weekends, in-season heavy phases.
Why not just drink Gatorade and eat protein?
Oral rehydration works — for mild dehydration. After a marathon or a century, the gut is often too stressed to absorb well in the first few hours, which is why race medical tents still stock IV fluids. An IV bypasses the gut and restores plasma volume rapidly. The amino acid portion supports protein synthesis during the tight recovery window post-event when muscle is re-building.
Common Sandy & Salt Lake Valley use cases
Our location puts us 20 minutes from most trailheads in Little and Big Cottonwood, 30 minutes from Park City, and minutes from the Jordan River Parkway Trail. Many of our regulars are cyclists and runners who finish a long Saturday effort and stop on the way home. Winter pattern: ski in the morning, drip in the afternoon.
FAQ
Can I do Athletic Recovery before an event too?
Yes. A pre-event hydration and B-vitamin drip the day before a race is a well-known routine. We’ll strip out the Toradol for pre-race (since it can affect kidney workload during effort) and focus on fluids and minerals.
Does this help with DOMS?
Delayed-onset muscle soreness is driven by microtears and inflammation. IV therapy won’t eliminate DOMS, but fluids, magnesium, and the anti-inflammatory add-ons often take the edge off significantly.
Is this banned by any sport?
USADA/WADA rules restrict IV infusions above 100 mL per 12 hours for athletes subject to testing, outside of medical settings. If you’re competitively tested, talk to your federation before booking.
Minimum age?
18+ at our clinic. Younger athletes need parental consent and additional screening.
